The US is facing the coldest winter in a decade – NBC News.
Forecasted cold winter in the US
Meteorologists predict that Arctic cold is approaching the United States. This week, frosts will cover up to 70% of the country's territory. Temperatures in many states will be below zero on the Fahrenheit scale, 10-20 degrees below normal. Such cold is expected to last throughout January.
According to meteorologists, such a winter has not occurred in America for several decades. The Arctic cold forming over Siberia is moving towards North America. This will lead to low temperatures and snowfall. Residents of states in the east and south of the US, where warm climates prevail, will have to face a real winter. Meteorologists warn of dangers that may arise from such weather.
The main reason for the extremely cold weather is an area of high pressure over the Arctic, which directs cold air to the US and Canada. As a result, very low temperatures and heavy snowfall are expected in the north and east of the country. The first week of January will bring a lot of snow, but this is just the beginning of winter weather, which will become even stronger in the second week of the month. Thaws can be expected only in February.
The latest data indicates that last year was economically successful for the US.
