Shark attack on tourists in Egypt: there are dead and injured
On Sunday, December 29, a tragedy occurred in the resort town of Marsa Alam in Egypt - a shark attacked two foreign tourists who were swimming in the Red Sea. According to the Ministry of Environment, one tourist died and the other was injured. The nationality of the victims has not been specified.
Witnesses reported that the shark attacked a small boy, and his father tried to save him, but also became a victim of the predator's attack.
To ensure safety, local authorities decided to close the pier for two days starting Monday and prohibit swimming near the piers.
It is worth noting that recently a shark also attacked a Russian tourist in the Maldives.
Increase in shark attacks on humans
According to the International Shark Attack File, from 2010 to 2019, there were over 800 unprovoked attacks by these predators on humans. In 2023, 69 attacks were recorded, which is 6 more than the average number over the previous five years. As a result of these attacks, 10 people lost their lives.
