The largest tourist tax is now in Amsterdam.
Recently it became known that the capital of the Netherlands will soon introduce the largest tourist tax. Considering overall trends, the tax will be the fourth largest in the world and the largest in Europe.

Overall, the lodging tax will increase to almost 13% of the hotel cost. For example, if a room costs 100 euros per night, the tax will be 12.5 euros. The new tourist tax may also unpleasantly surprise cruise ship passengers. It is likely that under the new rates passengers will have to pay an additional 11 euros. Currently, the tax is 8 euros.
All money collected from the taxes will be used to pay for services for local residents. The Dutch authorities do not want to deter tourists.
