US Presidential Candidates Raised $4.2 Billion for Election Campaign
US presidential candidates, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris, raised $4.2 billion for their election campaign and spent $3.5 billion. The bulk of these funds went to media and advertising, reports the Financial Times citing the final reports of the parties.
According to Financial Times data, this presidential campaign became the most expensive elections in US history. Democrats raised $2.3 billion and spent $1.9 billion, while Republicans raised $1.8 billion and spent $1.6 billion.
Based on the financial analysis conducted by the Financial Times, virtually all the money from both sides went to media and advertising. A particularly large sum was allocated for advertising in seven states that play a crucial role in the electoral process.
In addition, Trump paid a significant portion of the money on legal cases against himself. Over $100 million of their expenses went to his legal costs, which constitute 14% of the total expenditure.
