Tried to drown dog in the sea — Odesa police opened a case.
Information about a resident of Odesa, who swam in the sea with a dog while the animal began to drown, spread on social media. Witnesses of the incident paid attention to this, helped the dog, and reported it to the police.
A 38-year-old man at the beach in Kryzhaniivka tried to drown his dog. Charitable activities of concerned citizens helped save the animal, after which witnesses called the police. The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic where it is recovering.
What punishment threatens
Law enforcement officers have entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (cruel treatment of animals) and have initiated an investigation. All circumstances of the event are being established. For this case, the man faces up to 6 months of arrest or up to 3 years of restriction of liberty.
With the help of concerned citizens, the dog was saved, and law enforcement officers have already started an investigation regarding this crime. The further fate of the man who tried to kill his pet will be decided by the court in accordance with the law.
