MP stated that billions of hryvnias in aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine are lying in the National Bank, but they are not being used.
The majority of the allocated funds for the Armed Forces remain unused
In 2024, about 16 billion hryvnias were allocated to a special account in the National Bank of Ukraine to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, only a third of this amount - 5.9 billion hryvnias - was transferred for the needs of the Armed Forces. The remaining funds remain unused in the accounts of the National Bank of Ukraine, reports MP Nina Yuzhanina.
"As of January 1, 2025, the remaining funds in the special account amounted to almost 12.3 billion hryvnias. Why are these funds remaining in the account and not being used for defense?", - asks Yuzhanina.
According to the deputy, in 2024, funds from the special account were transferred to the accounts of various agencies. In particular, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine received 2,962 million hryvnias, the State Special Communications Service - 1,917.47 million hryvnias, the Security Service - 475 million hryvnias, the Main Intelligence Directorate - 261.3 million hryvnias, and others.
Overall, throughout the entire period of the war, less than 1% of the total amount transferred to the needs of defense from the special account was allocated to military units, notes Yuzhanina.
"In March 2024, the government suspended the possibility of transferring funds from this account to meet urgent needs", - notes Yuzhanina.
According to Yuzhanina, all proposals by the faction to increase the share of military income tax that is automatically directed to military units are blocked in the Ukrainian parliament.
This year, private donations to support Ukraine's military efforts have significantly decreased. Charitable organizations report a decline in contributions due to economic difficulties and public fatigue from the war.
The Pentagon reported on the remaining funds for military assistance to Ukraine.
U.S. President Joe Biden plans to spend as much money as possible allocated for supporting Ukraine by the end of his term.
