The population of one of the largest Asian countries is rapidly declining.
China lost 1.39 million residents in a year
According to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the country's population decreased by 1.39 million people in 2024. Currently, over 1.4 billion residents live in China.
According to statistics, 9.54 million children were born in China, and 10.93 million people died over the year. It is noted that the male part of the population exceeds 719 million, while the female part is over 689 million. Additionally, the number of urban residents increased by 1.1% (to 943.5 million people), while the rural population decreased by 2.5% (to 464 million people).
We remind that China has launched a campaign to encourage childbirth. Various ways are being used to encourage single people to marry and families to have more than one child. Stimulating measures are being conducted at both local and national levels.
By 2035, the birth rate in China may significantly worsen.
China's leader Xi Jinping urged the government to make efforts to prevent 'extreme cases', avoiding a repeat of the mass killings that occurred in the country.
Professor Hiroshi Yoshida of Tohoku University warned that in Japan, where the birth rate is rapidly declining, only one child under the age of 14 will remain by the year 2720. This will occur 100 years earlier than previously expected.
