Brussels Hosts NATO and EU Parliament Events Marking Four Years of War in Ukraine.
Belgium Marks Four Years Since Russia's Full-Scale Invasion of Ukraine
According to UATV: Ceremonies were held in Belgium to mark the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022. A key event took place at NATO headquarters in Brussels, attended by representatives from the alliance's member states. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte was a principal speaker, stressing the critical need for sustained international backing for Ukraine. This commemoration comes at a time when continued Western support is vital for Ukraine's defense efforts.
“Ukraine is a nation of quiet heroes, where both civilians and soldiers bear the burden of war. It is absolutely essential that Ukraine continues to receive the necessary military, financial, and humanitarian assistance.”
Mark Rutte
These remarks underscore the ongoing relevance of international aid for Ukraine as it faces continued Russian aggression. A significant part of the day's events involved debates within the European Parliament, where support for Ukraine was discussed. During these sessions, a resolution on Russian aggression was adopted, highlighting European unity in the commitment to defend Ukrainian sovereignty.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the international community, stating: “All those who were not afraid on February 24, 2022, and all those who are not afraid today. And today we must be just as determined and strong as we were at the start of the invasion.”
These events demonstrate that the international community remains steadfast in supporting Ukraine's fight against the Russian invasion, now entering its fifth year. The anniversary acts as a powerful symbol of Western solidarity in confronting aggression, reaffirming an unwavering stance on Ukraine's territorial integrity. In a European security landscape marked by increasing threats, support for Ukraine remains a top foreign policy priority.
Consequently, the gatherings in Brussels hold significant importance not only for Ukraine but for the stability of the wider region.
