NATO Approves €90 Billion Aid Package for Ukraine Through 2027

NATO's Financial Commitment to Ukraine

According to UATV: NATO has formally approved a €90 billion financial aid package to support Ukraine over the 2026-2027 period. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stressed the need for flexibility in deploying these funds to bolster the Ukrainian military, stating the package would fundamentally impact Ukraine's security. This substantial commitment comes as the alliance seeks to provide long-term, predictable support for Kyiv's defense efforts.

Ukraine's Defense Priorities for 2026

For 2026, Ukraine's key defense priorities will focus on:

  • Air and missile defense systems,
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (drones),
  • Artillery ammunition.

Ukraine plans to manufacture over 7 million drones in 2026, with more than 80% of enemy targets currently being destroyed by domestically produced drones.

It is notable that this initiative was originally proposed by Denmark and Lithuania, with high-level discussions on Ukraine's support taking place among officials. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that 'strong Ukrainian Armed Forces will be a key deterrent even in peacetime.'

The meeting also concentrated on deterring Russia, particularly in the context of billions of dollars worth of American military equipment flowing into Ukraine.

This NATO financial package represents a critical step in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities amid Russia's ongoing aggression. The planned investments in military technology, especially drones and air defense, underscore Ukraine's drive to ensure its security and sovereignty. Support from Lithuania, which provided over €1 billion in military aid in 2025 (0.28% of its GDP), and other NATO members highlights the international solidarity in countering regional security threats.
