Italy and Poland refuse to send troops to Ukraine: what role they will play.
According to ТСН: Italy does not plan to send its troops to Ukraine but will continue to provide support in diplomacy and joint work with other partners. Poland also will not send its troops to Ukraine, but it will play an important role in logistics and organizational support for Ukraine and other countries deploying their forces on its territory.
This information was announced by the Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni and the head of the Polish government Donald Tusk during the "Coalition of the Willing" meeting in Paris.
Security Guarantees for Ukraine
As Meloni noted, the main focus during the meeting was on developing security guarantees inspired by NATO Article 5. These guarantees will become part of a broader package of agreements aimed at ensuring the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.
According to information from the Italian government website, Meloni emphasized that the participation of coalition countries in multinational forces will be voluntary, and all decisions will be made in accordance with constitutional procedures. A key element will remain the Ukrainian army, on the basis of which other security mechanisms will function, as well as monitoring the ceasefire and strengthening Ukraine's defense capability.
Poland's Logistical Role
Donald Tusk also confirmed that Poland will not send its troops to Ukraine but will play a leading role in organization and logistics for Ukraine and countries actively involved on its territory.
"Poland will be the leading country in logistical and organizational matters. Each task has its national leader, and among the four countries that will determine further actions after the end of the war, Poland is one of the leaders," the Prime Minister noted.
At the "Coalition of the Willing" meeting in Paris, Ukraine, France, and the United Kingdom officially signed a declaration on the deployment of Western contingents on Ukrainian territory.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also commented on the possible placement of German troops in NATO countries near Ukraine, which may occur after a year of ceasefire.
This decision by Italy and Poland highlights their commitment to supporting Ukraine without direct military involvement. Furthermore, the deployment of Western contingents will be an important step in strengthening Ukraine's security amid ongoing threats. The signing of the declaration between Ukraine, France, and the United Kingdom indicates close cooperation among the countries, which can help Ukraine enhance its defense capability.
