Germany Urges Central Asian Nations to Back Ukraine and Increase Pressure on Russia.
Call for Support of Ukraine
According to UATV: In advance of a meeting with his regional counterparts, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has called on Central Asian countries to support Ukraine and intensify sanctions pressure on Russia. She stressed the critical need to ramp up efforts to combat the circumvention of sanctions, which were imposed by the European Union to degrade Russia's military capabilities. This diplomatic push comes as Western nations seek to maintain a united front against Moscow's ongoing invasion.
Baerbock's statement was made ahead of a meeting with the foreign ministers of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. In her remarks, she noted:
“In response to Russia's war of aggression, we have imposed massive sanctions to contain the Russian war machine.”The Minister also emphasized that
“attempts to circumvent these sanctions support Russia's war of conquest and thus directly threaten the security interests of the European Union.”
Mounting Concern Among Western Nations
These appeals highlight the growing concern among Western nations regarding the situation in Ukraine and the necessity for broad international support in countering the aggression. Baerbock expressed hope for a constructive dialogue with the Central Asian states to further solidify the international stance against Russia. Such meetings and statements could prove pivotal in shaping a unified coalition against Russian aggression and bolstering Ukraine's position on the global stage, as the conflict continues to impact global security and energy markets.
