Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2025. This information was announced by 'Glavkom', citing a post from the Nobel Prize on social media X.The Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded to the Hungarian writer 'for his compelling and prophetic creativity, which, under conditions of apocalyptic terror, confirms the power of art.'László Krasznahorkai was born in 1954 in the small town of Gyula in southeastern Hungary. His first novel, 'Satantango' (1985), unfolds in a remote rural area and became a literary sensation in Hungary; a film of the same name was made based on its motives. In 2015, the writer received the International Booker Prize. The Nobel Committee noted that Krasznahorkai supports the Central European literary tradition, drawing inspiration from the works of Franz Kafka and Thomas Bernhard. His works are characterized by absurdism and grotesqueness. This year, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to American scientists Mary Brunkow and Fred Ramsdell, as well as Japanese researcher Shimon Sakakuchi. The scientists were recognized for revolutionary discoveries in the field of peripheral immune tolerance, which prevents the negative impact of the immune system on the body. The committee also announced the laureates of the Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry for 2025, which were awarded to outstanding scientists around the world. Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai has become the first laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature in Ukraine in recent years, highlighting the growing significance of his work on the international stage. His works, which explore complex philosophical questions in the context of modernity, may resonate with many readers around the world.
