New disability regulations in Ukraine: who is granted indefinitely and what payments are available.
New disability regulations in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: In Ukraine, since 2022, an updated mechanism for assessing disability has been in place, affecting the duration of disability and the conditions for granting pensions. According to the new rules, disability is granted indefinitely to:
- citizens of retirement age;
- people with anatomical defects;
- persons with disability group I, if their condition does not improve for five years;
- military personnel who have sustained severe injuries.
Disability for a term of 5 years is granted to individuals with severe forms of chronic diseases and oncological conditions. For those with disability group III, the duration is set for 1 year, for group II - for 2 years. Upon re-evaluation, disability can be designated for a period ranging from 1 to 3 years.
Payments for persons with disabilities
Regarding payments, in 2026, persons with disabilities will receive different percentages of the retirement pension:
- 100% for group I;
- 90% for group II;
- 50% for group III.
Payments are calculated from the date of disability establishment, provided the application was submitted within three months. The innovations aim to improve the mechanism for assessing disability and ensure social support for people with disabilities.
The introduction of new disability assessment rules in Ukraine is an important step towards improving the social protection of persons with disabilities.
Changes in the mechanism for granting pensions and payments can significantly impact the financial situation of this category of the population, which is particularly relevant in the context of economic challenges. These innovations also reflect the state's efforts to integrate persons with disabilities into society and ensure their rights to a decent life.
