Ukrzaliznytsia implements European schedule: trains Kyiv-Lviv will run every hour

According to ТСН: Passengers who regularly travel between Kyiv and Lviv will now find it much easier to navigate the schedule. Ukrzaliznytsia is adopting a European approach to transportation organization — periodic train movement. This means that trains will depart on a fixed schedule at regular intervals.

The new schedule will come into effect from December 14.

What will change for passengers

Transport expert Oleksandr Krashnostan explained the essence of the innovation in detail. The main advantage lies in predictability, as passengers will no longer need to check the schedule each time to know the departure time.

"Starting from 07:05, one train will depart, then an hour later, at 08:05, the second train, at 09:05, and so on. That is, each train departs exactly an hour apart. The same happens in reverse," the expert explained.

This system is widely used in EU countries, for example, in the Czech Republic, where trains between Prague and Ostrava operate on a similar principle. This allows passengers to conveniently plan their trips.

Will there be more tickets

Despite the convenience of the new schedule, Krashnostan warns that this decision will not solve the problem of seat shortages during peak periods. In fact, this is about optimizing the schedule of already existing trains, not launching new ones.

"This is convenience for passengers, but it will not bring more seats, because to have more seats, a greater number of carriages is required," the expert emphasized.

Thus, these are the same trains that previously could depart at 20:21, and now their departure time has been adjusted to an even mark, for example, 20:05, creating a unified rhythm of movement.

Recall that Ukrzaliznytsia has announced a large-scale update of the schedule, which includes new trains, more transfers, and an increase in the number of passenger seats. The new schedule features 11 new trains.

This reform aims to simplify travel between cities and make trips more convenient for users. However, for now, the issue of the number of seats remains open, and railway workers need to seek solutions to increase the transport capacity.
