Draft law on NABU and SAP

The head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, shared his thoughts on draft law No. 12414 regarding the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. He believes that this law will not lead to the closure of these bodies.

Vasyl Malyuk stated this at a briefing on Tuesday, July 22.

'Do we live in a rule of law state? I say in law. What is the main law? The Constitution. No one has liquidated anyone. I am not a deputy or a legislator. And believe me, what they voted for is a matter for the MPs, and it would be better to ask them. That would be correct and logical. They will provide some details', Malyuk explained.

According to him, the draft law is aimed at 'returning to the Constitution' and should not violate the independence of NABU and SAP.

In the opinion of the SBU head, this new legislative initiative is intended to maintain the balance of power and prevent the possibility of losing control over these bodies and allowing them to become too influential.

Malyuk expressed confidence that diligent employees of NABU would be satisfied if the Attorney General, Ruslan Kravchenko, brings them new ideas for work.

It is worth noting that on July 22, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed draft law No. 12414 regarding NABU and SAP.

At the same time, Ukrainians from all over the country came out to protest against this draft law, holding banners and shouting slogans.

The draft law on NABU and SAP has caused mixed reactions among the public and political figures, although SBU head Vasyl Malyuk insists that it is aimed at strengthening power structures and ensuring their effective functioning.
