Budanov on Critical Dependence on the USA: What Happens to Intelligence Without American Satellites.
According to ТСН: Ukraine has a significant dependence on the United States of America in two key areas: satellite imaging and radar and optical support.
This was stated by Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, during an interview for the LB Club. He emphasized that the country is critically dependent on the USA in these areas.
“We are critically dependent on the States. But this is divided into two directions. Let me explain what the matter is. We are critically dependent in terms of satellite imaging, radar, and optical,” emphasized the chief military intelligence officer.
Budanov also noted that this dependence has two components: the first is access to satellite imaging as free assistance, and the second is contracts made with the USA.
“If we disconnect what is provided as assistance: regarding optical imaging - this is a minus of about 15-17%, regarding radar - about 46%. It’s difficult, but not critical. It would be critical if a political decision were made to block contracts - then we would drop to almost zero,” Budanov stated.
Additionally, he pointed out another aspect of critical dependence - the early warning system for ballistic threats. In other areas of intelligence, Ukraine mainly relies on its own resources.
It is also worth noting that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed the opinion that during negotiations for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, it is not about coercion, but about establishing the expectations of both sides and opportunities for agreements.
Ukraine's dependence on the USA in the field of satellite imaging and radar support emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in the current security situation. Budanov emphasizes the need to maintain the agreements made, as their blocking could lead to serious consequences for national security. At the same time, Secretary of State Rubio's opinion encourages thoughts about the importance of a diplomatic resolution of the conflict that considers the interests of both sides.
