Memorial March Held in Odesa
According to Novyny.live: A Memorial March to honor the fallen defenders of Ukraine proceeded through Odesa, starting at Soborna Square and concluding at European Square, the site of a public memorial. This event pays tribute to those who have lost their lives for the country's independence during the full-scale war, which has now lasted for 1,462 days. Such public commemorations are a common and poignant feature of life across Ukraine as the nation endures the ongoing conflict.
The war's impact on Odesa is severe: 193 enemy attacks on the city and region have resulted in the deaths of 244 local residents, including 13 children. More than 1,200 people have been wounded, with 245 cultural heritage sites and 11 medical facilities damaged. These figures underscore the profound challenges faced by the local population.
Honoring the Fallen
The memory of the warriors lost in this war is being actively preserved. In Shevchenko Park, 25 new names of fallen defenders were unveiled. Two massive flags—of Ukraine and the European Union—were unfurled on the Potemkin Stairs, symbolizing support and unity.
Participants in the memorial march emphasized the importance of such events.
Tetiana Sleptchenko shared her feelings: 'Events like this provide crucial moral support. For me, it's a great source of strength, especially thanks to the organization Angel of Light—without this support, it would be much harder.'Nataliia Mutorytsova added: 'Such actions are vital—they show we are heard and not forgotten, that we exist.'
The Memorial March served as another testament to the unity and resilience of the Ukrainian people during wartime, honoring those who gave their lives for Ukraine's freedom and independence.
This event is a significant part of civic life in Ukraine. It not only commemorates the fallen but also reinforces resilience and provides moral support for those who remain. Gatherings like the memorial march foster societal solidarity, allowing people to express their feelings and support one another during difficult times. Amid war, preserving the memory of the lost and nurturing a spirit of unity within the population remains essential.
