Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko celebrates her 64th birthday

Today, September 19, celebrates the birthday of Ukrainian writer, literary critic, and publicist Oksana Zabuzhko. She turns 64 years old.

Oksana Zabuzhko was born on September 19, 1960, in Lutsk, in a family of sixties dissidents. Her father, Stefan Ivanovich Zabuzhko – a teacher, literary critic, and translator, was repressed during Stalin's Time and served his exile in the Trans-Baikal Territory. Her mother was a teacher of Ukrainian literature. Due to the repressions against the Ukrainian intelligentsia that started in September 1965, the family left Lutsk, and since 1968 Oksana Zabuzhko has lived in Kyiv.

The writer graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and completed her postgraduate studies in aesthetics at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv University.

Creativity of Oksana Zabuzhko

Writer Oksana Zabuzhko began to engage with poetry in childhood. She tried to publish her first poetry collection, but due to repressions against her parents, this did not succeed. Oksana Zabuzhko also studied Ukrainian history and identity. Her novel "The Museum of Abandoned Secrets" is considered one of the most outstanding works of the writer.

International recognition

The works of Oksana Zabuzhko have been translated into many foreign languages, and some books have been published in different countries. She is a member of the Association of Ukrainian Writers, and her active public activities are known even beyond Ukraine.

Oksana Zabuzhko is married to artist Rostyslav Luzhetsky. She is also known for her positions and is an ambassador of Ukrainian culture and history.
