Semerenko, who won Olympic gold, shared her deep emotional pain, explaining that Krasnopillia is more than just a location—it is a cornerstone of her identity.

“Krasnopillia. My home. My childhood. My story. This is where I took my first steps toward biathlon. This is where I brought my medals, including Olympic gold,” she said.

Her parents and her sister Valentina Semerenko had already evacuated from Krasnopillia to escape the dangers of active fighting. Tragically, in March 2025, the sisters' 90-year-old grandmother was killed in a separate Russian attack. These events underscore the severe hardships and human toll that Ukrainian families continue to endure throughout the war.
