Ukraine Honors Roman Ratushnyi: What We Know About the Scout’s Death.
Remembering Roman Ratushnyi
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine is paying tribute to Roman Ratushnyi, an activist and intelligence scout with the 93rd Brigade 'Kholodnyi Yar,' who was killed on June 9, 2022, near Izium. At just 24 years old, Ratushnyi served in the reconnaissance platoon of the brigade’s 2nd Motorized Infantry Battalion. His death occurred during fierce fighting in the Kharkiv region, where he demonstrated exceptional bravery and courage.
Born and raised in Kyiv, Ratushnyi took over the leadership of the civic organization 'Protect Protasiv Yar' in 2018. This initiative became a defining part of his life, as he tirelessly advocated for environmental protection and the rights of local residents. When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Ratushnyi immediately took up arms to defend Kyiv, meeting the aggression head-on.
Awards and Legacy
Posthumously, Roman Ratushnyi was awarded the Order for Courage, Third Class, in recognition of his service and dedication to his homeland. His powerful words, urging a rejection of Russian cultural influence, remain deeply relevant today:
“Burn out all Russian subculture from within yourselves. Burn out all childhood memories tied to Russian-Soviet influences. Burn out relationships with relatives or friends on the other side, with anyone who carries Russian subculture. Otherwise, it will all burn you out.” — Roman Ratushnyi
Ratushnyi’s legacy continues to inspire many. His unwavering commitment and heroism in the fight for Ukraine live on in the hearts of those who knew and remember him.
By honoring Roman Ratushnyi, Ukraine not only salutes one individual but also underscores the critical role of civic action in defending the nation’s independence and territorial integrity. His life story and words highlight the importance of preserving national identity and rejecting harmful influences that could threaten Ukraine’s future.
