Five months since the start of the Kursk operation: The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine named the losses of the Russian Federation.

During the operation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region, the enemy army lost more than 38 thousand soldiers. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

«Five months since the start of the Kursk operation: the total enemy losses are over 38 thousand, of which about 15 thousand are dead», - the report says.

The General Staff notes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine's operation began on August 6, 2024, and became the next stage of countering Russian aggression. For the first Time in 11 years of war, combat operations took place on the territory of the aggressor country.

The main goal of the operation was to prevent the enemy's advance in the Sumy region and to create a «buffer zone». Moreover, it forced the Russian occupiers to transfer significant resources to the Kursk region, weakening their positions on other fronts.

«Russia was forced to urgently ask for help from North Korea, which sent almost 12 thousand of its soldiers to the Russian Federation. About 4 thousand of them have already been eliminated, and some units have lost combat capability», - the General Staff reminded.

In particular, Ukrainian defenders destroyed:

• 104 tanks;
• 575 armored combat vehicles;
• 1104 units of automotive equipment;
• 330 artillery systems;
• 12 multiple launch rocket systems;
• 12 air defense systems;
• 1 aircraft;
• 3 helicopters;
• 859 drones;
• 32 units of special equipment.

The General Staff added that during the operation, Ukrainian forces captured 860 Russian soldiers, significantly replenishing the exchange fund, which allowed hundreds of Ukrainian defenders who were in Russian prisons to return home.

It should be noted that at the beginning of January 2025, Ukrainian troops actively began an offensive in the Kursk region. Thus, on Sunday, January 5, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the villages of Berdyn and Velyke Soldatske in the Kursk region.

Moreover, on January 2, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a precision strike on the command post of the occupying army of the Russian Federation in the settlement of Mariine in the Kursk region.
