Survivor's Pension in 2026: Key Changes to Minimum Amounts and Conditions

According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian citizens who have lost a family breadwinner are eligible to apply for a survivor's pension through the Pension Fund. For 2026, the state has updated the minimum payment amounts for this benefit, which supports dependents who have lost their primary source of income. This social safety net is particularly crucial given the ongoing economic challenges many families face.

Eligibility for Benefits

In 2026, the following dependents are entitled to receive payments:

  • Parents who have reached the age of 60 or have a disability;
  • A spouse of pensionable age or with a disability;
  • Children under 18 years old and children with disabilities.

Each eligible family member receives 50% of the deceased breadwinner's old-age pension. Payments continue for the entire period of incapacity for work and are granted for life to persons with disabilities and those who have reached 60 years of age.

Updated Minimum Pension Amounts

The minimum pension payment amounts for beneficiaries were also revised for 2026. For a single recipient, the minimum payment is set at 100% of the subsistence minimum. When two family members receive the benefit, the combined amount is 120% of the subsistence minimum. For three or more recipients, the minimum total payment increases to 150% of the subsistence minimum.

Special attention should be paid to pensions for families of deceased military personnel. In 2026, the pension for such families ranges from 30% to 70% of the deceased's monetary allowance, but is no less than two subsistence minimums, which this year amounts to 5,190 hryvnias.

Application Process

To apply for the pension, applicants must contact the Pension Fund of Ukraine and submit the following documents:

  • An application form;
  • Passport;
  • Identification code;
  • Marriage certificate (if applicable);
  • Death certificate of the breadwinner;
  • A document confirming dependency on the deceased.

These steps are essential to securing financial support for those who have suffered the loss of a provider.

The 2026 update to minimum pension amounts is a significant measure for families who have lost a breadwinner, especially within the context of war and growing societal needs. The increased payments aim to provide greater financial support to dependent family members, which may help alleviate social strain. Given these changes, it is vital for citizens to be aware of their rights and the assistance available during difficult life circumstances.
