Combat month counts as three: how military personnel receive pensions.
According to inkorr.com: In Ukraine, military personnel can retire after 25 years of service. Participation in combat operations significantly accelerates this process: every month spent on the front line is counted as three months.
This procedure is defined by the Law on Pension Provision for Persons Discharged from Military Service.This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense clarifies that the increased coefficient applies only if the military is actually carrying out defense tasks, is in combat areas during martial law, and has documentary confirmation of this.
When a month is counted as three for military pensions
The calculation is based on the formula 1 month of service = 3 months of experience, if the military:
is directly in the combat zone;
carries out defense and population protection tasks;
acts under martial law;
has official confirmation from the command.
This documentation will serve as the basis for
accruing serviceand determining the future size of the pension. The absence of these documents may lead to the loss of part of the service record. Command has been alerted to the importance of maintaining personal files with regard to combat references.
Why this is important
The amount of pension payments for military personnel depends not only on total service time but also on the confirmed periods of participation in combat operations. These factors significantly affect the speed of pension receipt and its amount. The state emphasizes that the 'month for three' mechanism is designed to compensate for the additional risks and burdens that defenders face at the front.
Earlier we mentioned that
the size of military pensionsdepends on the length of service, department, and discharge period. The minimum pension approved by the government is 3854 UAH, although most pensioners currently receive 8-9 thousand hryvnias.
Thus, the new regulation aims to support military personnel who are in combat zones and to stimulate the quality of accounting for their service and merits. This may positively impact the financial security of military pensioners, considering the risks and burdens they face.
