Ukrainian Families of Fallen Soldiers to Receive 60% Higher Pensions Starting 2026.
Pension Increase for Families of Fallen Defenders
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's Pension Fund has announced a significant increase in state pensions for specific social groups, set to take effect in the spring of 2026. This change directly benefits the non-working family members of soldiers who have died in service. Starting March 1, 2026, the minimum pension for each person in this category will be no less than 12,810 Ukrainian hryvnias (UAH), a substantial rise from the approximate 8,000 UAH minimum guaranteed in 2025.
Furthermore, for families where pensions are granted to two or more members, the minimum payment per person will increase to at least 10,020 UAH. In 2025, the equivalent payment under these circumstances was only 6,100 UAH. This measure is designed to provide greater financial stability and support to families who have suffered a profound loss. These adjustments are part of broader social support reforms during a period of national defense.
Required Documentation for Pension Applications
According to the Pension Fund, from March 1, 2027, the amounts of these pension payments will be subject to annual indexation. The state has also established provisions for a one-time financial assistance payment of 15 million UAH, or 500 times the subsistence minimum, for able-bodied individuals in certain cases.
Non-working family members of fallen defenders must prepare specific documents to apply for the pension. The required paperwork includes:
- passport,
- tax identification code,
- marriage certificate,
- death certificate of the service member,
- confirmation from the military unit,
- document confirming family composition,
- pension application form,
- bank account details.
Consequently, the new pension amounts and the introduced changes are expected to significantly improve the financial situation of the families of fallen defenders.
This step is crucial for supporting families who have lost loved ones in military conflicts and can help alleviate the financial burden they face.
The planned annual indexation of pension payments also provides additional assurance regarding the stability of social protection for vulnerable segments of the population.
