Pentagon Alarmed by Tomahawk Stockpile: Over 850 Missiles Fired in One Month of Conflict.
Tomahawk Missile Inventory Under Scrutiny
According to TSN.ua: The U.S. Department of Defense has raised concerns over dwindling Tomahawk cruise missile reserves, driven by heavy usage during military operations in Iran. Over a four-week period, American forces launched more than 850 of these missiles, averaging roughly 30 strikes per day. At this rate of expenditure, the existing arsenal could face severe depletion within the next three to six months of sustained combat.
Current estimates place the total Tomahawk stockpile between 3,000–3,100 and 4,000–4,500 units. Considering that nearly one-fifth of that inventory may have been consumed in less than a month, the situation is increasingly alarming. In 2023, defense contractor Raytheon produced just 68 Tomahawk missiles, with only 34 planned for 2024. Production targets for 2025 and 2026 stand at 22 and 57 units, respectively.
Production Capacity and Strategic Implications
While Raytheon has the theoretical capacity to manufacture up to 600 Tomahawk missiles annually, current usage rates highlight an urgent need to reassess both military strategy and industrial output to maintain adequate supplies for ongoing operations.
The rapid consumption of Tomahawk missiles underscores the critical importance of strategic planning during active combat. Such high expenditure in a short timeframe may compel military leaders to revise tactical approaches and accelerate production timelines to avert a critical shortage. This issue becomes especially pressing as the conflict continues and the potential for new military campaigns looms.
