Negotiations in Jeddah Concluded: First Comments from Representatives of Ukraine and the USA.
Negotiations between Ukraine and the USA
The first rounds of negotiations between Ukrainian and American delegations took place in Jeddah. The meeting discussed Ukraine's proposal for a ceasefire and an agreement on rare earth metals. The Ukrainian delegation was represented by Andriy Yermak, Andriy Sibiga, Rustem Umerov, and Pavlo Palisa. The American side was led by Marco Rubio and Mike Waltz.
'We consider this meeting a great opportunity for advancing peace and developing the Ukrainian-American strategic partnership. The constructive atmosphere proves that we can seize this opportunity. Ukraine wants peace like no one else,' said Andriy Sibiga.
US State Department spokesperson Tami Bruce expressed optimism about the outcomes of the negotiations and announced 'fantastic news for humanity'. After the first round, the second round began, where security guarantees for Ukraine were discussed. US President's advisor Mike Waltz noted that the negotiations are 'progressing'.
It is worth noting that the USA has suspended military assistance to Ukraine. However, if the negotiations are successful, it may be restored. After the end of the meeting, Ukraine and the USA are expected to present a joint statement outlining the results of the negotiations.
The agenda for the meeting was discussed in advance. In his column for the Guardian, head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak listed three conditions for achieving peace: security guarantees for Ukraine, strengthening sanctions against Russia by the EU, and the confiscation of Russian assets for financial support of Ukraine.
