US Could Host Ukraine-Russia Talks: Conditions and Timing
According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian MP Roman Kostenko has argued that negotiations would currently be disadvantageous for Ukraine, but the situation could shift by spring. He suggested that if Ukraine holds out until spring and better weather, it could significantly alter the balance of forces.
“It will be a completely different situation. Halting the enemy on the battlefield, destroying at least 80-90% of their drones in the fields,” Kostenko emphasized.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced the possibility of talks between Ukraine and Russia taking place in the United States. According to him, America has for the first time proposed that the two negotiating groups—from Ukraine and Russia—meet on US soil. The negotiations could occur in Miami within a week.
Kostenko believes that talks are currently unfavorable for Ukraine, but achieving a drone shoot-down rate of around 80% could substantially impact the situation. Therefore, future developments may hinge on Ukraine's battlefield successes and changing conditions by spring. This potential diplomatic move comes as Western support for Ukraine remains a critical, yet politically complex, factor.
How Military Success Could Affect Negotiation Prospects
This development underscores the complexity of the current situation in Ukraine, where military achievements could significantly influence the feasibility of talks. Negotiations in the US, if they proceed, could mark an important step in seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict. However, their effectiveness would depend on Ukraine's military successes in the coming months.
Monitoring events on the front lines and their impact on diplomatic moves remains crucial for understanding how the situation will evolve.
