Military Medical Commissions in Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine’s ongoing general mobilization requires all citizens to undergo a Military Medical Commission (MMC) assessment to determine their fitness for service. The MMC conducts a medical examination, after which an individual may be deemed fit or unfit for duty. Those found unfit are removed from military registration. Citizens without health issues are typically assigned to combat brigades.

Service Member Transfers

It is important to note that transferring service members from rear areas to the front is possible, but only with the consent of the unit commander. As Nelia Romanenko stated,

“the appropriateness of a move is also determined by the immediate commander”
. However, the law does not define clear criteria for the commander to decide on the necessity of a transfer, which can complicate the process.

The Territorial Recruitment Center is required to notify about a conscript’s limited fitness. Service members who can only serve in security, support, or logistics units have the right to be transferred from the front to rear units. This allows individual characteristics of each service member to be considered during mobilization tasks.

Thus, undergoing the MMC is a crucial step in the mobilization process that will affect the future of service members during wartime.

Given Ukraine’s ongoing mobilization, completing the Military Medical Commission is key to building effective human resources for the Armed Forces. It not only helps ensure the necessary number of troops but also optimizes their assignment based on physical condition and professional skills. Transparency and clarity in transfer rules can significantly impact military morale and readiness for combat missions.
