Peskov: Putin is open to contacts with German Chancellor Scholz.
German Foreign Minister Olaf Scholz stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin no longer wishes to communicate with him even by phone. However, the Kremlin claims that Putin remains open to contacts with the country's chancellor.
The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, emphasized that there were no proposals to refuse contacts. According to him, Putin continues to be open for negotiations with the leader of Germany.
The resistance from Berlin was the statement made by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who noted that Putin does not show any desire to even speak to Scholz by phone.
The last Time Scholz and Putin communicated by phone was in December 2022. At that time, the German Chancellor urged the Russian President to seek a diplomatic resolution to the conflict and withdraw Russian troops from Ukraine.
It is also worth noting that Scholz expressed support for Russia's participation in the second "peace summit" to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He believes that it is time for a swift exit from the state of war and the achievement of peace.
Currently, on the German Foreign Minister's agenda is a plan to call Putin before the G20 summit in Brazil, which will take place in November.
