Arrest of the Suspect in the Nord Stream Explosion: What is Known About the Ukrainian

According to ТСН: A Ukrainian named Serhiy Kuznetsov has been detained in Germany, suspected of blowing up the Russian gas pipelines 'Nord Stream' in 2022. He was extradited from Italy to Germany the day before.

The press service of the Federal Prosecutor's Office of Germany reported:

'An arrest warrant was executed in connection with the suspicion of sabotage of the 'Nord Stream' pipelines. The investigating judge of the Federal Court executed the arrest warrant for the Ukrainian citizen Serhiy K.'

It is also worth noting that on November 27, Kuznetsov was delivered from Italy. As his lawyer Mykola Katerynchuk stated, the Ukrainian is currently in the city of Karlsruhe, and on November 28 he is expected to be brought to court to select a preventive measure. After that, Kuznetsov is to be transferred to a detention center in Hamburg, where he will be held in a separate cell.

It should be reminded that German prosecutors earlier charged Kuznetsov with conspiracy to cause an explosion, unconstitutional sabotage, and destruction of important facilities. He is suspected of belonging to a group that installed explosives on the 'Nord Stream' pipelines near the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea.

This case is causing great resonance not only in Germany but also in other European countries, considering the importance of the pipelines for energy supply in the region. Despite the seriousness of the charges, the question of the fairness of the trial and adherence to the rights of the detained remains at the center of attention for human rights defenders and journalists.
