Ursula von der Leyen outlines the EU's priorities for Ukraine for 2026.
Support for Ukraine from the European Union
According to ТСН: Ahead of the meeting between the leaders of the USA and Ukraine, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed the ongoing support for Ukraine from the European Union and outlined key priorities for 2026.
She noted that prior to the negotiations between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the European Commission conducted consultations with several European leaders. The result was the achievement of a common position on further support for Ukraine on its path to a just and lasting peace, as well as strengthening its defense capabilities as an important component of Europe's security.
“We welcome all efforts leading towards our common goal - a just and lasting peace that preserves the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. This also strengthens the security and defense capabilities of the country as an integral part of our continent's security,” emphasized the head of the European Commission.
Von der Leyen also stressed that Europe would not ease pressure on Russia and would continue active work on Ukraine's European integration. She stated that in 2026, the European Commission plans to increase pressure on the Kremlin, provide support to Ukraine, and actively accompany our country on its journey to EU membership.
It was previously reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had already arrived in the United States, where he has a meeting scheduled with Donald Trump. It was also noted that Zelensky discussed key documents of the peace plan with European leaders before the meeting with Trump.
These actions signal the growing international support for Ukraine in the context of its struggle for autonomy and territorial integrity. The meeting between Presidents Trump and Zelensky will be an important step in strengthening bilateral relations, as well as highlighting Ukraine's role in European security initiatives. The common position of the EU regarding support for Ukraine demonstrates that the country will not be left alone in its efforts towards peace and development.
