Pensioners receive more than 800 hryvnias monthly: who is entitled to the allowance.
In our country, pensioners receive not only a monthly payment from the state, but also additional financial support. Allowances are provided for people over 65 and 70 years old, and there is also a special payment for certain categories of elderly Ukrainians. For more detailed information, one can refer to the law 'On Pensions for Special Services to Ukraine'.
Who is entitled to additional allowances
According to the law of Ukraine, pensioners may receive additional funds if they have made a significant contribution to the development of the state or achieved exceptional success in their professional field. These allowances are secured by the state budget and are permanent. For example, those entitled to such payments include Heroes of Ukraine, awarded the Order of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes, and other individuals with honorary titles awarded after 1991. Additionally, mothers who have given birth to and raised more than five children may receive such additional payments.
What determines the size of the allowance and when the amount can increase
The size of the allowance is determined by the subsistence minimum for non-working persons and amounts to 35–40% of 2,361 UAH. This means that heroic mothers and individuals with outstanding merits can receive monthly supplements ranging from 826 to 944 UAH. Although the subsistence minimum was not revised in 2025, it is periodically increased, which may lead to an increase in the amount of the allowance. Recently, the possibility of taxing pensions in Ukraine has also been discussed, which has caused concern among elderly people.
Ukrainian pensioners can receive additional allowances from the state if they have made a significant contribution to the development of the state or achieved exceptional success in their professional field. The size of the allowance depends on the subsistence minimum for non-working persons and can increase along with the rise of this indicator. Such support is provided by the law 'On Pensions for Special Services to Ukraine' and is an important element of social assistance for Ukrainian pensioners.
