Russian troops shot two Ukrainian prisoners near Selydove
The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that Russian troops in the Donetsk region committed another horrific crime. They shot two Ukrainian soldiers who were held captive. The incident occurred near the city of Selydove.
According to the prosecutor, the servicemen were captured on October 18, 2024, at 14:38 in the Pokrovske area. The occupiers captured them during the assault on a forest plantation.
“The occupiers, who attacked the forest plantation near the city of Selydove, laid the unarmed prisoners face down. They held them in this position, pressing them to the ground with their feet, and after some time, shot them point-blank with automatic weapons.”
Law enforcement reminds that the killing of prisoners is considered a serious international crime and a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions.
The Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office has started a pre-trial investigation regarding this crime. A criminal case has been initiated on the fact of the attempt on the life of Ukrainian prisoners of war under Article 438 (intentional murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Earlier, during the investigation of another case of killing prisoners by Russian military, it was found that Russia often returns dismembered bodies of Ukrainian prisoners to erase traces of brutal treatment.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that a total of 3,767 Ukrainian men and women have been returned from Russian captivity.
