Poland initiates reduction of import quota for Ukrainian chicken.
Polish Association of Poultry Producers changes quota for import of Ukrainian chicken
The Polish Association of Poultry Producers plans to reduce the quota for the import of Ukrainian chicken from 137 tons to 90 tons after June 2025. This was announced by the president of the National Poultry Council of Poland, Dariusz Gosciński. The main reason for the quota change is market instability, reports Pulz Biznesu.
“The limit of 137 thousand tons is not critical, but it is quite large for stability. Now we hope to return to the limit of 90 thousand tons, which ensured balance in the market,” Gosciński said.
According to Gosciński, even if Ukraine implements animal welfare standards and sustainable production, Ukrainian producers will still have competitive advantages due to the scale of business and lower production costs. This may lead to price competition in the European market.
Lobbyists for Polish producers also emphasize that more than two-thirds of Ukrainian poultry exports to the EU are accounted for by the agricultural holding MHP, which has competitive advantages due to low production costs.
Wheat from Ukraine banned on the Polish market
The Trade Inspection for the Quality of Agricultural and Food Products in Poland (IJHARS) in Rzeszów has decided to ban the circulation on the Polish market of a batch of hard wheat with a total weight of 21,998 tons, which was imported from Ukraine. The decision was made due to the low protein content in this batch of wheat.
Additionally, the Polish minister hopes to stop the transit of Ukrainian products and introduce licenses.
Moreover, the Polish prosecutor's office is investigating over 70 companies suspected of fraud involving Ukrainian grain. According to the investigation, the companies may have imported thousands of tons of grain to Poland, concealing its origin and purpose.
