Polish historian calls for increased commemoration of Petliura and Mazepa in Ukraine.
According to inkorr.com: Polish historian Lukasz Adamski believes that Kyiv lacks monuments to Symon Petliura and Ivan Mazepa. He urged Ukrainians and Poles to work on restoring their role in history, which he thinks remains undervalued compared to the figure of Stepan Bandera. The historian expressed this opinion in an interview for the 'Glavkom' site.
Commemoration of Historical Heritage
Adamski emphasized that the army of the Ukrainian People's Republic and its leaders are practically forgotten in the memory of Poles. He called to restore this historical narrative. The historian also highlighted the importance of mentioning other heroes who supported Polish troops and expressed a positive opinion about the wise policies of Petliura and Mazepa, who sought compromises to preserve Ukraine, even though their actions were not always understood by the wider audience.
The Necessity of Commemoration
Lukasz Adamski stressed the importance of honoring the roles of Petliura and Mazepa in Ukrainian history. At the same time, he emphasized the need to restore the correct historical narrative, as without this, these significant figures remain in the shadows.
The discussion of the roles of Petliura and Mazepa in shaping Ukrainian statehood is gaining relevance against the backdrop of modern military challenges. Restoring their memory may contribute to a better understanding of Ukrainian history and strengthen patriotic feelings among current generations. Steps towards honoring these figures are important not only for Ukraine but also for expanding cooperation and understanding with Poland in the context of shared history.
