Biography and Creative Work

Yuri Tarnavskyi was born on February 3, 1934, in Turka, Ukraine. After World War II, he lived with his family in a displaced persons camp in New Ulm, and he completed his education externally in Munich. In 1952, the writer emigrated to the USA.

Tarnavskyi wrote in both Ukrainian and English. He was one of the founders of the avant-garde literary association of Ukrainian writers in the diaspora (NYG) and was a member of the Union of Writers of Ukraine, as well as the American community of literary innovators.

Yuri Tarnavskyi left a significant mark on literature, becoming a vivid representative of the Ukrainian diaspora and a co-founder of an important literary community.

The death of Yuri Tarnavskyi is a great loss for Ukrainian culture both in Ukraine and abroad. His work continues to inspire new generations of writers and readers who honor his contribution to literature and culture.
