On the western coast of the Mediterranean Sea, on the Spanish island of Mallorca, an incredible event is unfolding: a mass invasion of snakes. The resort, known for its beautiful beaches and warm weather, is now experiencing an influx of horseshoe snakes that threaten the local ecosystem. The extraordinary news was published by the Daily Mail.According to biologist Samuel Piña from the University of the Balearic Islands, the number of horseshoe snakes in Mallorca is rapidly increasing, leading to the disappearance of the sargantana lizard species. These lizards are an important element of the island's ecosystem, serving as pollinators. If no action is taken to reduce the snake population, they may displace other residents and threaten the Mallorca ecosystem.Although horseshoe snakes are not venomous, they can bite, so scientists advise tourists to avoid contact and, in case of an encounter, report it to local authorities. Not only is southwest Europe and northern Africa known — now their temperament can also be heard directly from Mallorca.
