Belarusian Il-62 Did Not Cross Ukraine’s Border, Air Force Confirms
According to Novyny.live: On June 26 at 11:30 PM, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially denied claims that a Belarusian Il-62 aircraft had entered Ukrainian airspace, stating that no Belarusian airline plane had crossed into the country. This clarification came after false reports circulated widely.
The unverified story first emerged on June 25 around 10:30 PM, alleging that the aircraft had entered the airspace of Chernihiv Oblast at approximately 8:30 PM Kyiv time. The news quickly gained traction among the public and in the media, prompting the official denial.
Airspace Monitoring and Misinformation
It is important to note that Flightradar24, a civilian commercial tracking project founded in 2006, was the source of the initial data. However, in this instance, the information from that platform was not corroborated by Ukraine’s Air Force.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also commented on the broader context, stating, 'Belarus is completing the construction of infrastructure along the Ukrainian border.'
Zelenskyy further reported that on June 22, relay stations in Belarus—which had potentially been aiding Russia in striking Ukraine—ceased operations. These developments highlight the critical importance of airspace control and border security for Ukraine.
The official rejection of the Il-62 incursion story underscores the need for careful scrutiny of information sources, especially amid ongoing military tensions. Accurately assessing the situation in the airspace is vital for Ukraine’s national security, given the potential threats posed by neighboring states.
