Removal of Truhano's Citizenship: What Preceded the President's Decree.
According to inkorr.com: The first petition was submitted back in September 2015, when 1435 people appealed to then-President Petro Poroshenko with a request to 'open a criminal case against the mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, on the grounds of separatism.' The authors of the petition noted that the mayor 'constantly ignores the issue of recognizing Russia as an aggressor state at city council meetings.'
Hennadiy Chetverev from the organization 'Defenders of Donbas' emphasized that their team initiated these petitions eight years ago. Due to the lack of government response, they decided to discontinue their activity in this direction.
Removal of Odesa Mayor's Citizenship
Military serviceman Myroslav Otkovych started a petition to revoke Hennadiy Trukhanov's citizenship, which gathered over 25 thousand signatures within a day. The president signed a decree revoking the Ukrainian citizenship of several individuals, including the mayor of Odesa. Trukhanov denied this decision, calling it a 'fabrication.'
Reviewing the petitions submitted on the president's website regarding Trukhanov, it should be noted that his citizenship revocation indeed gained wide support, considering the numerous controversies and uncertainties surrounding his actions.
These events indicate the tense situation around Hennadiy Trukhanov's activities, which sparked active discussions among citizens. The petitions concerning his person openly reflect the public demand for accountability from government officials and the interaction of authorities with the defense aspects of national security.
