Zelensky instructed to develop a law on elections during wartime: what the initiative entails.
Draft law on elections during martial law
According to ТСН: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky instructed parliament to develop a draft law that allows elections to be held during martial law.
This initiative, as confirmed by several sources in the government, is not related to the intention to hold elections, but is a response to Donald Trump's statements that there are no elections in Ukraine. They claim, if you accuse us of lacking elections - we are ready to organize them.
Thus, the question of elections now depends on the United States: to hold them, a significant reduction in military activities is necessary, so it is worth demanding the Kremlin to cease aggression.
This topic was discussed seriously: last week there was a working meeting on this issue at Bankova Street. The preparation of the draft law, which is supposed to address all accompanying problems, including security issues, has begun.
Among the innovations, according to sources, there is a plan to allow multi-day voting with a limit of 60 days, as is provided for early presidential elections.
We remind that U.S. President Donald Trump noted that
presidential elections need to be held in Ukraine, since they
have not been held for a long time.
In response, Volodymyr Zelensky unexpectedly said that he is ready for elections and addressed the U.S. and European partners with a request to guarantee security for their conduct.
It is important to note that the development of the draft law is a clear signal of the Ukrainian authorities' readiness to take into account the international context. Elections during martial law are a complex issue and require a balanced approach, as peace and security are priorities for conducting any democratic procedures. The further development of events in this area will depend on the internal and external political situation.
