US Senators on Russia's Attacks at Christmas: Putin Is Not Interested in Peace.
According to ТСН: Russia's attacks on Ukraine during Christmas celebrations show that the president of the aggressor country, Vladimir Putin, has no intention of seeking peace and cannot be trusted.
The US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations expressed this opinion in its statement.
Christmas Truce Tradition
American legislators reminded of the important tradition of a Christmas truce, which was applied even during World War I.
"Putin's decision today to start attacks instead of seeking a ceasefire serves as a sobering reminder to all of us: Putin is a ruthless killer who is not interested in peace and cannot be trusted,"
— stated in a declaration signed by senators from both parties.
Brutal Attacks on Ukrainians
The document condemned the brutal attacks by Russia on Ukrainian cities such as Kherson, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Odessa, Sumy, Donetsk region, and Kryvyi Rih, which occurred against innocent Ukrainians celebrating Christmas with their loved ones.
Senators emphasized that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was open to a Christmas truce, but Putin showed no willingness to cease fire.
"He [President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin] orders soldiers to continue committing brutal acts of aggression on one of the holiest Christian days,"
— the statement says.
Solidarity with Ukrainians
Senators expressed their support for Ukrainians who are "celebrating Christmas in the most challenging conditions."
"The faith of Ukrainians is a strength stronger than the evil unleashed today by the Kremlin,"
— noted in the statement.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pointed out that Russia not only rejected the call for a Christmas truce but also continued to deliver massive strikes, killing people on the day when Ukrainians celebrate Christmas Eve.
The next actions of the international community may be crucial to support Ukraine in this difficult situation. While most countries express solidarity with the Ukrainian people, it is important that they continue to provide military and humanitarian assistance to counteract aggression from Russia.
The international community must remain united in condemning the actions of the Kremlin, as this not only affects stability in Ukraine but also peace all over Europe.
