Putin wants to reset Russia-US relations on his terms - ISW.
Scientists from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) claim that Russian President Vladimir Putin wishes to reset Russia-US relations during Donald Trump's presidency on his terms.
Experts noted that "Putin is trying to influence the foreign policy of the newly elected US President Donald Trump and achieve another reset of Russia-US relations on Russian terms."
At the 21st Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club, Putin hinted that Trump's campaign expressed "a desire to restore relations with Russia, help end the Ukrainian crisis," and later noted that Russia is open to the "possibility of restoring relations with the United States."
Putin attempted to blame the US for undermining Russia-US relations, stating that the United States imposed sanctions and restrictions on Russia and supports Kyiv - without mentioning that this was in response to Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine.
Scientists point out that from Putin's statement, it is clear that Russia agrees to reset Russia-US relations only on the condition that the US lifts sanctions and restrictions against Russia and stops supporting Ukraine - on terms that are beneficial to Russia at the expense of US interests.
