Mike Waltz on lowering the conscription age in Ukraine

Mike Waltz, a future national security advisor in the Trump administration, has advocated for lowering the conscription age in Ukraine to 18 years. He stated this in an interview with ABC News.

'Ukrainians have taken a noble and tough position, but the issue of manpower shortage at the front needs to be resolved,' Waltz said.

In his opinion, Ukraine faces human resource issues due to the high conscription age.

'Their conscription age is now 25 years, not 18. Many people do not understand that they can enlist hundreds of thousands of new soldiers... If Ukrainians are calling on the whole world to support democracy, then they themselves must act accordingly,' Waltz added.

It should be noted that the reserving for all military personnel ends on February 28. If an enterprise loses its critical status or does not meet its criteria, then the reserved employees of that enterprise lose their reservation.

According to Oleksandr Fedienko, a people's deputy and member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, a worker from a critical enterprise was mobilized in the Mykolaiv region, cancelling his deferment from conscription. He claimed that TCC employees can mobilize reserved workers, complicating their demobilization.

However, it turned out that TCC and SP employees cannot cancel reservations for military personnel working at critical enterprises.
