Russian missile caused gas outage in Lviv: what happened

According to ТСН: As a result of a missile strike by the Russian Federation on the evening of January 8, an automatic gas supply safety system was activated in the village of Rudno near Lviv, causing issues with gas delivery.

Lviv's mayor Andriy Sadovyi commented on the situation:

“For safety reasons, gas supply has been temporarily suspended for 376 consumers on several streets. This is not a network failure — the protection system was triggered by a shock wave.”

Specialists are already working at the scene to check the equipment. After the inspection is completed, gas will be supplied to consumers again.

It is also worth noting that during the night, Lviv City Council deputy Ihor Zinkevych reported disruptions in gas supply in several settlements of Lviv region, particularly in the village of Rudno.

Attack on Lviv

Around midnight during an air alert, loud explosions were heard in Lviv. At that moment, it was unknown which targets were hit. Subsequently, the head of Lviv Oblast Military Administration Maksym Kozytskyi reported that a critical infrastructure facility had been attacked.

The Air Command 'West' noted that the Russian missile was flying at a speed of about 13,000 km/h, making it difficult to intercept with air defense systems. The missile strike occurred at 23:47.

Representative of the State Emergency Service Yuriy Ihnat emphasized that the Russian army carried out an attack on Lviv Oblast using a ballistic missile launched from the 'Kapustin Yar' range. According to monitoring channels, the missile was 'Oreshnik'.

This situation indicates the ongoing threat to critical infrastructure in Ukraine amid Russian aggression. Attacks on vital facilities leave people without essential needs, such as gas supply. The alert in Lviv underscores the seriousness of the challenges faced by local communities and the importance of preparedness for potential events in the future.
