Russian ships do not escort their vessels: fear of Ukrainian strikes.
According to ТСН: Russian military ships are currently not escorting their civilian vessels in the Black Sea due to fears of being hit by Ukrainian forces.
Situation in the Black Sea
Spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy Dmitry Pletenchuk reported that the situation with Russian submarines remains stable, and Russia lacks the capability to escort its civilian fleet.
“Regarding Russia's military vessels in the Black Sea, the situation remains unchanged. Russians are unable to provide escort for civilian ships in the Black Sea, especially when it comes to the ship and cutter composition,” Pletenchuk noted.
Risks for Russian ships
Pletenchuk explained that in order to escort civilian vessels, Russian military ships need to go to sea, making them vulnerable as they remain unprotected.
“For this, they need to go to sea and move far from the base where they are covered by anything that can protect them. They understand that if they leave these bases, they will face challenges alone in the waters of the Black Sea,” emphasized the Navy spokesman.
He also pointed out that if escorted, a vessel loses its civilian status.
“Any vessel that is escorted — whether it is a military ship, an aircraft or something else — loses immunity as a civilian vessel and is considered a military target,” he explained.
According to Pletenchuk, there are numerous threats for Russian forces in the Black Sea, complicating their situation.
“From our side, there are more than enough challenges for them. Therefore, the situation for Russians in the Black Sea is quite complex,” summarized Pletenchuk.
It was previously reported that the maritime drones of the Security Service of Ukraine, Sea Baby, struck the oil tanker Dashan in the Black Sea, which is part of Russia's 'shadow fleet'.
Furthermore, after attacks on tankers of the Russian 'shadow fleet' in the Black Sea near the Turkish coast, Ankara urged both countries to avoid destroying energy infrastructure within the framework of the conflict.
This situation indicates the complicated circumstances for the Russian fleet in the Black Sea, as well as the increasing activity of Ukrainian forces. It is essential for countries to adhere to security principles in the waters, as tensions in the region may lead to unforeseen consequences, especially in the context of global energy security.
