Reuters: Ukraine and Russia prepare to exchange 115 prisoners.
Ukraine and Russia plan today, August 24, to exchange 115 prisoners with the mediation of the United Arab Emirates. This was reported by Reuters, citing a statement from an Emirati official.
It is noted that this will be the first prisoner exchange between the countries since the start of the Ukrainian military offensive in the Kursk region on August 6.
The Russian propaganda agency TASS confirmed the prisoner exchange.
The Russian Federation has returned 115 Russian servicemen from the territory controlled by Kyiv, who were captured in the Kursk direction, in exchange for 115 captured Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen, the Ministry of Defense reports.
The Ukrainian side has not officially commented on the information yet.
Recall that last week, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets stated that a prisoner exchange in the "all for all" format with the Russian Federation would not take place in the near future. Instead, the Ukrainian side is doing everything possible to ensure large-scale prisoner exchanges take place.
Earlier, Lubinets held a conversation with the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova regarding a prisoner exchange against the backdrop of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' advance in the Kursk region.
By the way, Ukraine primarily plans to return from Russian captivity heavily wounded individuals, women, those who have been in captivity for a long time, and soldiers from "Azovstal".
