Massive drone attack on Russia: explosions in Moscow and blackout in Belgorod.
According to ТСН: On the night of December 16, drones attacked the territory of the Russian Federation. The explosions were felt most in several regions, including Moscow and the Moscow region.
This was reported by local residents and Russian Telegram channels.
In the morning, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that their air defense forces had destroyed 130 drones. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin added that 25 drones were shot down over the capital. He noted that emergency services were working at the debris crash sites.
At Sheremetyevo Airport, restrictions were introduced on the acceptance and departure of flights. Temporary restrictions were also imposed at Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports located in the Moscow region.
Explosions and their consequences
Residents of Kashira, located near Moscow, also reported explosions heard near the Kashirskaya HRES. After the explosions, plumes of smoke rose in the area. Residents of the Istrinsky district reported more than a dozen loud explosions.
The Belgorod region suffered the most – Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov noted "serious" damage to engineering infrastructure due to missile attacks. The Telegram channel ASTRA reported that the gas turbine heat and power plant "Luch" in Belgorod was hit, resulting in a blackout in the city.
Attacks on Rostov and the region
Rostov and its region also experienced attacks. ASTRA noted that possible targets for the drones could have been branches of the Novoshakhtinsk oil products plant. Governor Yuri Slyusar added that due to damage to power lines in the Kamensky district, water intake and the pumping station stopped.
“Last night, a massive UAV attack was directed against Rostov, Kamen, Novoshakhtinsk, Kamensky, Millerovsky, Chortkivsky, Belokalitvinsky, Sholokhovsky, Tatsinsky, Tarasivsky, Morozivsky, and Kostiantynivsky regions,” - stated a Russian official.
In the Rostov region, several districts were left without heating due to the shutdown of the TPP-2.
A blackout was also recorded in Belgorod after the shelling. According to information, the substation "Luch" became a target again. Russian social media claim that the city was shelled from multiple launch rocket systems, likely HIMARS, leading to partial power outages.
These attacks are taking place against the backdrop of ongoing rising tensions in the region. The shelling and drone strikes are part of a broader military conflict that continues to affect the daily lives of many people. Emergency services are working to eliminate the consequences of the attacks, but the situation remains complicated.
