In Russia, a law was passed for teenagers: what they can now be prosecuted for from the age of 14

According to inkorr.com: The State Duma of the Russian Federation has adopted a new law that increases responsibility for minors. From now on, teenagers aged 14 and older can be held criminally liable for sabotage, learning terrorism, and participating in sabotage groups. All 398 deputies voted for this law, expanding the list of crimes for which one can be prosecuted from the age of 14.

New punishments for minors

According to the amendments, children can be sentenced to terms ranging from 5 to 20 years of imprisonment, and in some cases - even to life imprisonment. One deputy noted that teenagers may not be aware of the consequences of their actions; however, other parliamentarians believe that fear is the best prevention of crime.

Discussion of the bill

During the discussion, one of the deputies expressed the opinion of introducing the death penalty, although this issue was not related to the discussed law. The Secretary of the Security Council of Russia believes that drone attacks on the country's energy infrastructure do not pose a threat to internal security.

The new law on increasing responsibility for minors in Russia was adopted unanimously and introduces new criminal sanctions for teenagers from the age of 14. This decision aims to reduce the level of crime among youth, although it evokes mixed reactions in society, as it introduces harsh punishments for teenagers who may not fully understand the seriousness of their actions. The methods of prevention and the effectiveness of new sanctions in the fight against crime remain subjects of further discussion.
