Russia Intensifies Assaults in Kharkiv and Donetsk Regions: 235 Combat Clashes in One Day.
Frontline Situation
According to TSN.ua: Despite failing to achieve any strategic breakthroughs, Russian forces are pressing their offensive operations across multiple sectors of the front, particularly in the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions. Ukraine's defense forces are conducting effective counterattacks and reporting significant enemy losses. In the northern part of the Sumy region, Russian troops have been unable to advance, while in the Kharkiv area, the frequency of attacks has jumped from a few to nine per day.
In the Kharkiv region, occupying forces launched a massive assault along the Lyman and Borivka axes. Over the past 24 hours, a total of 235 combat engagements were recorded across the front line. The enemy carried out 70 airstrikes, dropping 235 guided aerial bombs. Additionally, Ukrainian forces documented the use of 6,831 kamikaze drones. Russian invaders suffered 1,520 casualties, and the Russian army lost the following equipment:
- 4 armored fighting vehicles
- 32 artillery systems
- 3 multiple launch rocket systems
- 1,391 unmanned aerial vehicles
- 155 units of automotive equipment
Attack Axes and Russia's Plans
Among the key axes of attack, the Pokrovsk direction saw 54 assault actions by the aggressor, the Kostiantynivka direction had 32 attacks, and the Huliaipole direction recorded 14 attacks. Other notable areas include the Lyman axis with 13 attacks, the Kupiansk axis with 10 attacks, the South-Slobozhansky direction with 14 breakthrough attempts, and the Orikhiv axis with 5 attacks. Russian military leadership has not abandoned its objectives and continues preparing for further aggression against Ukraine. According to Oleksandr Syrskyi, 'the enemy is not giving up its intentions and is continuing preparations for further aggression against Ukraine.' Additionally, information from Dmytro Zaporozhets indicates that 'the primary goal is to capture Kostiantynivka by May.'
In 2026, Russia plans to recruit 409,000 military personnel, signaling a long-term commitment to sustaining warfare. The situation on the front remains tense, and Ukraine's defense forces continue to resist the aggression, demonstrating resilience and readiness to protect the country's territorial integrity.
The current frontline situation shows that active hostilities persist despite heavy losses on both sides. Russian troops are attempting to adjust their tactics, notably by intensifying attacks in the Kharkiv region, but Ukrainian forces are effectively countering the aggression. Russia's plans for a significant increase in troop numbers indicate the protracted nature of the conflict and the likelihood of further escalation in the future.
