Overnight Drone Strikes by Russia Injure Civilians Across Three Ukrainian Regions.
Civilian Infrastructure Targeted in Drone Assaults
According to UATV: In a series of overnight drone attacks on February 2nd, Russian forces struck civilian targets, resulting in injuries across the Cherkasy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Spokesperson Ihor Taburets confirmed the aerial assaults hit multiple locations. In Cherkasy Oblast, four people were wounded. These strikes are part of a broader pattern of attacks on non-military targets, which has drawn widespread international condemnation for violating the laws of war.
Widespread Damage and Casualties Reported
In the city of Kharkiv, attacks on three districts left two women injured. The bombardment in Zaporizhzhia Oblast caused extensive destruction, with officials reporting:
- 844 strikes recorded across 35 towns and villages;
- ten individuals wounded in Zaporizhzhia city and surrounding districts;
- 122 reports of damage to housing and civilian infrastructure.
Serhiy Beskrestnov stated that the Russian occupiators saw and recognized the target as civilian but nevertheless made a conscious decision to attack.
A period of mourning has been declared in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast for those killed in recent shelling. The situation remains tense, with local communities continuing to endure the aftermath of the attacks.
These events underscore the severe impact of the ongoing war on Ukraine's civilian population. Attacks on peaceful towns and villages inflict not only physical damage but also deep emotional trauma with long-term consequences for local communities. Targeting civilian objects constitutes a grave breach of international law, routinely condemned by the global community.
